Downhill skier betters own world record
Atlin, Northern BC, Canada
Mark Bennett, the current
world record holder in Alpine Skiing for vertical descent in one day, broke
his own record Mark set in 1996. He is from Northern California.
The new record of 294.340 vertical feet (89.727 m) was accomplished in 14 hours.
This breaks both old records of 262.070 vertical feet (79.879 m) per day and
the 24 hour record of 271.300 vertical feet. This was accomplished through Klondike
Heliskiing, a heliskiing company in Atlin, British Columbia (approx. 200 km
South of Whitehorse, Yukon). Leo Steiner from Austria was the lead guide, Lois
Uhl the guide.
This successful world record effort was done as a benefit for the Jimmie Heuga
Center for their dedication to and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple
Sclerosis is the most prevalent neurological desease in North America
